Techcrunch » Blog Archive » YouTube’s Magic Number – $1.5 Billion

Lot’s of talk lately about YouTube being bought by another media giant because of its huge traffic numbers. If that happens, then we are back to the blind venture-capitalism of the 1990’s. Only an idiot would buy a company that makes money off violating the DMCA and copyright law in general.

I love YouTube. It’s the ultimate fun time waster. I’ve posted my own videos there. One day I looked up “Rolling Stones” and found several full-length rare music videos by them. They were all obviously captured off television. I doubt the Stones (and their lawyers) would like that.
I am surprised that YouTube hasn’t tried to shift the burden to the user by placing some “you agree to upload only videos of your own creation” text in their ELA. The copyright infringement that goes on on YouYube is rediculous.

So enjoy YouTube while you can, before it goes the Napster way.
